After brainstorming several ideas I finally committed to a shoot idea. Hopefully before the year is out I will try a couple more. Weekend Outing to the Raleigh Flea Market

Well first I must admit I broke the first rule of photography this weekend. No, I did not forget my camera. It was tucked safely in my camera bag sitting snugly in my seat. My memory card was tucked safely in my computer at home. :(

We enjoyed our time exploring the treasures at the Raleigh Fairgrounds. Discovered we like Hawaiian shaved ice more than Italian Ice. Two trips to the truck and we came home with some unique finds - two of which are below. Definitely going back with the camera and for more shopping!

PS - SD Card wallet ordered.

2012 - Animals loved by my lens

Animals Blog-Board-4-Opening-HorizontalThis post - the first post of 2013 originally was envisioned as my top 12 pictures of 2012 but I was having trouble deciding on only 12 favorites. I was very blessed in 2012 to meet and photograph beautiful families and many very special events. After browsing thru ALL the moments captured in time I was a bit overwhelmed to say the least. Being a photographer is very rewarding on a daily basis due to the people you meet and feeling so honored to be a part of these special moments. In addition, standing back and reviewing your work for the year is very rewarding in a personal sense to actually see the growth in the craft. The post of my top 12 in 2012 is still a work in progress! :) But hey - I am blogging anyway in order to honor  my goal to get the hang of this blogging thing and share more with you.  Today I am sharing a couple of my favorite animal pics that I stumbled across while reflecting on 2012. My poor animals are accustomed to having a lens in their face and probably feel the same way my kids do when the camera comes out. Some days are more photogenic then others but all days are worth capturing. Hope your day is all smiles!

What is lifestyle photography?

In 2011, as I was working on building my portfolio I was also working on finding my "style". I struggled trying to define my niche because by doing so I felt like I was limiting myself. I love photographing teens preparing to conquer the world, couples as they begin their lives together, sweet baby fingers and toes, but I can not stop there. I want to continue to capture the entire family as it continues to grow and the many special moments the future holds. Instead of defining my photography by the subjects I photograph I would like to define it by the little glimpses that I can document. Capturing the relationships and personalities in an artistic manner. Lifestyle photography is more of a journalistic approach full of emotion. The favorite gems I find in my camera are not always the ones with the proper lighting and perfect focus but the ones in which the moment continues to warm your heart with each gaze.

2012 is flying by!

2012 is moving at rapid speed for me! I can not believe it is the 52nd day of the year. How many moments have you captured with your children in those 52 days? I was shocked to realize as I was uploading birthday dinner pictures to Facebook that I do not have one picture with my children for 2012. I know - that is very sad. Especially since we have celebrated 4 birthdays so far. I have plenty pictures of the children and the details including the cake but they are all minus me. How many special moments did you capture with pictures but they are all minus Mom as well? For me I know I am much more comfortable behind the camera instead of in front of it. However that is no excuse. I am challenging myself to be in front of the camera more this year. Hair, makeup, nor an outfit will decide if a moment is captured with my family. I also want to help Moms share photos of themselves with their children. I am working on putting a mini session together dedicated to shooting Moms with their children. I would love to hear what would interest you. In addition to the photos would you like to receive a mini accordion book, a coffee table book, or other photo gifts from your session? I look forward to hearing your ideas. You can email your ideas or if you would like to receive  information on these mini sessions to jamieloomisphotography@centurylink.net.
